The Greater Bandon Association has named the May recipient of its Volunteer of the Month award. Thomas Jefferson becomes the seventh winner of the award. He was presented the award in form of a plaque and a gift certificate donated by Brewed Awakenings at the May 2 meeting of Bandon’s City Council.
Tom has been on the Parks and Recreation Commission since 2008. He has served as Vice-chair of the commission for the past four years.
Tom was instrumental in getting the Commissions Tree Sub-committee activated and has been a member since 2009. He has dedicated time and effort to planting the Monterey Cypress and Redwood trees around the community, including watering them during the summer months.
Tom has participated on the City Park conceptual plan committee, which promoted many of the improvements at City Park, including the stage, berm, landscaping, pathways, and sports plaza.
Tom has volunteered to help with all SOLVE projects, City Park cleanup days, and many other activities the Commission has requested or promoted, including doing educational training for many of our youth during these events.
Tom also has been the Commission’s liaison for the Arts Council.
The Greater Bandon Association will be honoring one of Bandon’s many volunteers that are making a difference in the community each month. Nominations for the June Award should be e-mailed to harv@greaterbandon.org or mailed to P.O. Box 161 by close of business on May 27, 2016.
