The Greater Bandon Association has named the January recipient of its Volunteer of the Month award. Bill Binnewies is this month’s winner as GBA continues its third year of presenting this award to the many outstanding individuals that contribute to making Bandon a better community to live in. Bill was presented the award in form of a plaque and gift certificate from the Cobbler’s Bench at the January 8th meeting of Bandon’s City Council.
It comes as no surprise that the retired National Park Service superintendent continues to support wildlife conservation and habitat. Having served for four years as its President, Bill remains on the board of Shoreline Education for Awareness and has served for years as its volunteer coordinator, recruiting, training and scheduling shifts for its wildlife interpreters. He fills many of those shifts at Coquille Point and Simpson Reef himself. He is a regular program presenter on wildlife and their habitat at Bullard’s Beach State Park. But there is another side of Bill we have all come to appreciate. He has been a member of Bandon’s Arts Council and has long been a Bandon Playhouse regular from building sets to being part of the cast. And last month, Bill played Santa Claus at several community events.
The Greater Bandon Association will be honoring one of Bandon’s many volunteers that are making a difference in the community each month. Nominations for the February award should be e-mailed to email@example.com or mailed to P.O. Box 161 by close of business on January 26th.
