The Greater Bandon Association has named the June recipient of its Volunteer of the Month award. Roger Straus has been chosen as GBA continues its third year of presenting this award to the many outstanding individuals that contribute to making Bandon a better community to live in. Roger was presented the award in form of a plaque and a gift certificate from The Cobbler’s Bench at the July 2nd meeting of Bandon’s City Council.
Roger has been a long-time volunteer contributor in our community with much of his work coming with the Bandon’s Lion’s Club where he is currently helping lead the fundraising and grant-writing for Bandon’s Veterans Memorial. He has devoted many hours in the public sector having chaired the City of Bandon’s Planning Commission, the Coos County Vector Assessment and Control Advisory Committee and currently chairs the Port of Bandon’s Budget Committee. He also has played a key role with non-profit organizations such as the Coquille River Lighthouse Keepers Foundation, Southern Coos Health Foundation and the BandonCares Steering Committee.
The Greater Bandon Association will be honoring one of Bandon’s many volunteers that are making a difference in the community each month. Nominations for the August award should be e-mailed to harv@greaterbandon.org or mailed to P.O. Box 161 by close of business on July 27th.
