Volunteer of the Month: Sharron Schmidt and Pat Sherwood

Sharron Schmidt and Pat Sherwood were recognized by the Greater Bandon Association as Bandon’s Volunteers of the Month for March at the March 2nd meeting of Bandon’s City Council. GBA presents this award to one the many outstanding individuals that contribute to making Bandon a better community to live in. Sharron and Pat were presented the award in the form of a plaque and a gift certificate from the Loft.

Sharron and Pat help at most events put on by the Greater Bandon Association and Bandon’s Chamber of Commerce. Whether it is the Cranberry Festival, the Gorse Blossom Festival or the Night of 10,000 Lights, you will find Pat and Sharron there. At the latter event in November, Sharron gave away many of the 400 hats she knits for kids each year for the holidays. They plan and work on other GBA single day promotional activities like last year’s Krazy Kars and Kritters that brought kids to the Youth Center and donated food to the Food for the Hungry program.

They also participate on the GBA’s design activities that aim to make Bandon a more attractive place to live. Last year, they were major participants in the community cleanup day sprucing up Old Town and the Highway 101 corridor before the tourist season began. Sharron serves as “eyes on the street” conducting periodic reviews to identify maintenance and other issues impacting the appearance of our town.

The Greater Bandon Association will be honoring one of Bandon’s many volunteers that are making a difference in the community each month. Nominations for the April award should be e-mailed to harv@greaterbandon.org or mailed to P.O. Box 161 by close of business on March 27th.
