Peter Braun was recognized by the Greater Bandon Association as Bandon’s Volunteer of the Month for December 2022 at the December 5th meeting of Bandon’s City Council. Peter was presented the award with a commemorative plaque and a gift certificate from Bandon Baking Company.
Peter is a graduate of Bandon High School and pursued his studies and initial work in film in California and Oregon for 10 years before returning to Bandon to take over the family business at the Cobbler’s Bench in 2001.
Much of his early volunteer work has been with the Masons. Not only has he led Bandon Masonic Lodge 130, but he has served in a regional and state capacity for the Oregon’s Masons as well.
Peter has been a leading advocate for the development of the Bandon’s Old Town business district. A leader in the now defunct Old Town Merchants Association, Peter was involved in getting Bandon designated as a Main Street town. He has served as President of the Bandon Chamber of Commerce and been on the Board of Directors of the Greater Bandon Association since its incorporation in 2011 and is currently serving as the Board’s President. He has been active in securing revitalization grants for the Masonic Building and in seeking such funding for workforce housing in Old Town Bandon.
Peter was elected to Bandon’s City Council in 2015. He is completing his final term at the end of the month.
Peter serves on the Board of Directors for Washed Ashore and the Port of Bandon’s Economic Development Fund Committee. He also was a participant in the Ford Family Foundation’s learning exchange on catalytic community building organizations.
The Greater Bandon Association will be honoring another one of Bandon’s many volunteers that are making a difference in the community each month. Nominations for the January award should be e-mailed to ninerharv2@msn.com or mailed to P.O. Box 161 by close of business on January 3.
